Amsterdam puts a nostalgic smile on a lot of people who visited the city. My smile appeared when discovering the Conservatorium Hotel!
What a hotel! What amazing and lovely staff! What stunning architecture! What an original design! What…! What…! What…! When walking through the stunning palazzo, I felt I was walking through the important life events of every human being.
Indeed, as soon as I entered the place, I was welcomed by Raphael Hermans’ statue of Nijntje, the cute rabbit created by Dick Bruna that filled my childhood bedtime stories and made me jump around like the little girl I used to be.
I took a million pictures of my hero (Miffy in English). My eyes were soon attracted to the splendid hall behind Nijntje which reminded me more of a living room than of a hotel lobby. It is such a cozy and inviting space that you quickly feel the need to invite your close friends for some quality time, the way we used to do when we were adolescents.
Adolescents who loved playing instruments because at that time they were convinced their music would change the world, especially while attending the Sweelinck Music Conservatorium. Traces of this past professional and musical experience can still be spotted at the hotel entrance thanks to the mind-blowing violin art installation Stradivarius by award-winning designer and architect Piero Lissoni.
This musical experience continues at the hotel’s Tunes Bar, one of the city’s place-to-be that amazes with its beauty and originality. It is here, in this intimate and trendy bar that you might meet the person who will change the course of your life, adding excitement and mystery, similar to the birds that ornate the bar’s magic walls.
It is with that person that you will want to build a future, by buying a magnificent cocoon, one which reminds you of the stunning suite that can be found at the top floor of the hotel. That suite of rooms that have taken you as close as could be to perfection.
To be able to do so you will have to tumble down from your daydreaming and you will have to ask for a loan from the Rijkspostspaarbank whose counters and secretaries’ desks can be found on the premises. The loan will of course be granted to you, as everything is designed to make you happy at the Conservatorium Hotel.
This gem will offer you, just as the surrounding museums do, an unfailing sense of creativity, glamour, inspiration, knowhow and imagination. I truly hope your life will be as amazing as the hotel’s building: as moving as its arches, as colored as its tiles, as daring as its modern design, as sunny as its lights and as fulfilling as its beauty.
